Hey there everyone, it’s Halloween week! That special time of year where in the run up to Halloween (but not Halloween itself because I have a prior engagement with my best friend where we watch horror movies every year) I play horror games because that’s how these things are done. This year I even put a bit of effort into it and disfigured myself with red contact lenses, fangs, and fake blood to look like a vampire.
In this second stream we return to Brennenburg Castle and the horrors it hides. Throughout our time here Daniel starts uncovering more and more of his past, the truth of his relationship with Alexander, a deeper understanding of vitae, and ultimately multiple different endings to the story (we actually experience all of them!). Unfortunately Halloween 2020 was a shorter gaming experience than 2019, but we still got a full game out of it.
Until next time…buh-bye!
About Amnesia: The Dark Descent
Amnesia: The Dark Descent is a survival horror adventure video game by Frictional Games, released in 2010 for Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X and Linux operating systems, in 2016 for the PlayStation 4 platform and in 2018 for the Xbox One. The game features a protagonist named Daniel exploring a dark and foreboding castle, while trying to maintain his sanity by avoiding monsters and other terrifying obstructions.
The game does away with anything resembling a combat system, relying on Daniel hiding or escaping from monsters, and gameplay is limited to maintaining a sanity gauge (affected by being in the dark or witnessing things that are disturbing) and puzzle interaction. Much of the game is played in darkness, with the player needing to find oil to light a lantern to be able to see and stave it off and maintain Daniel’s mental faculties.
