We Happy Few is an action adventure game developed by Compulsion Games and published by Gearbox Publishing. It was first released in 2016 as an early access title for Windows, before seeing a world wide release in 2018 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows systems. The game is played in the first person, and combines several different genres of gameplay, with RPG, survival, and roguelike elements all feeding into We Happy Few’s structure.
The game is set in an alternate, dystopian version of 1960s of Britain where events diverged from that of the real world during World War II. Following some unspeakable act that gave the country some degree of autonomy, the people of Wellington Wells began to live on a drug called ‘Joy’, which makes them permanently happy, and forget their most painful memories. Over the course of the game, you can play three story modes as different characters, chronicling their adventures as they cross over into one another’s lives.
